Abstract The main aim of the article is to review the various definitions of risk as a means towards formulating a definition of risk. Being a universal phenomenon risk has a dual nature. On one hand it is positive (as a chance). On the other hand it is negative (as a danger). The dual meaning and its prevalence have been treated as the main reasons for looking for its meaning. The second partof the article has reviewed various risk definitions. Starting with basic definitions the author also described various factors that have been used to define risk (i.e. in respect of results and difference between risk and uncertainty). In the third part the causes of risk diversity (attitude towards risk and time as main risk factor) have been described. Then the proposal of definition for risk has been presented. The author has proposed to define risk as the possibility of not achieving the target.
