Abstract The theory of sustainable development is based on the assumption that it is necessary to avoid possible future threats likely to constitute a barrier to the development of humanity. Such an approach requires numerous restrictions, in particular linked to the excessively heavy consumption. These initiatives are of long-term benefit beyond the present generation. However, due to the need to impose restrictions on the majority of countries of the world, the idea of this is considered utopian. It is therefore important to note that there is a different approach to this concept, treating it as a tool for positive pro-innovative changes. Such an attitude makes the implementation of the objectives of sustainable development possible, which includes examples of projects such as a factor of four and The Blue Economy.
