Abstract What the presented article refers to is the contemporary discussion on models and patterns of the relations between the doctor and the patient. Especially in medical ethics, changes in these relations are discussed and called for. Critical analyses of paternalistic relations will be presented as well as suggestions for establishing relations which emphasize the patient’s autonomy. Due attention will be drawn to the fact that some ethicists who put forward these demands apply a personalistic view on the doctor-patient relations. Such a standpoint is based on the thesis that doctor-patient relations should be perceived as relations of two persons depending on each other.
