Abstract The aim of the article is to characterize the way in which articles are summarized by artificial intelligence functionalities that have been offered to users of the Onet.pl news service since 2024. A total of 63 textual units, consisting of the original text and the automatically generated summary based on it, were subjected to content analysis using three variables: length, form, and informativeness. The results of the study indicate that summaries created by artificial intelligence tools exhibit a highly repetitive and homogeneous formal structure, which is subordinated to a primary goal – accelerating the reception of content. At the same time, they may be perceived as monotonous and as deliberately prolonging engagement with journalistic and commercial content.
