TITLE: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE – JOURNALIST’S ALLY OR COMPETITOR? WAYS OF USING AND ADAPTING AI SOLUTIONS IN THE MEDIA

Abstract In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has been discussed in the context of many areas of social life, including the world of media. There have been opinions approving the use of artificial intelligence, e.g., in data mining, handwriting or image recognition, because it improves the work of journalists, which should be treated as an alliance between humans and AI. On the other hand, skeptics of AI in journalism have pointed to job losses, ethical issues in the profession, and the imperfection of AI itself, which corresponds to the perception of artificial intelligence as a competitor. In addition to using artificial intelligence in journalistic work, more and more editorial offices are revealing its possibilities to their audiences and encouraging them to take advantage of them. This can be seen as familiarizing audiences with artificial intelligence. Examples include the following activities: shortening an article, learning about the context, listening to an article, and searching for information in editorial resources. Therefore, the following objectives of the article were defined: an attempt to diagnose the relationship between journalists and artificial intelligence affecting the media landscape, and an analysis of solutions implemented by selected Polish and foreign media in terms of their usefulness and attractiveness to the audience. Existing data analysis, multiple case studies, and the comparative method were used.
