Streszczenie Modern dance is an perpetual revolution. It emphasizes the improvisation and combination of various elements derived from classical ballet, acrobatics and gymnastics. Basic instrument of the dancer is his body. Among the modern dance precursors one can list names such as: Doris Humphrey, Charles Weidman, Martha Graham or Isadora Duncan. Jacek Łumiński, director and choreographer of the Silesian Dance Theater is considered to be such dance reformer in Poland. Thanks to his efforts undertaken within the National Theatre Academy in Cracow, new and unique Dance Theatre Faculty of an Actor has been created. Modern dance is subjected to many transformations. It constantly searches for new techniques and possibilities of creative expression. Places in which Dance Theatre is performing its spectacles is also changing. Choreographers are more keen to utilize small and improvised stages placed in postindustrial facilities, factories, mines, power plants. Thanks to numerous conferences and lectures, dance is changing its status from exclusive and accessible only for chosen, to universal art available for anyone.
