Streszczenie The article describes waste management system with reference to dependences between the man and environment. The main aim of this work was to explain the complexity of the four-stage process of waste management in Poland. Different classifications of waste were described as well as the foundations and aims of reasonable waste economy. Legislative basis from the responsible subjects point of view was presented. The author describes the realities of generation, collection, recycling and disposal of wastes. Lower level aim was to characterize the responsibilities of waste producers, owners and holders. Actual changes of waste management in Poland, especially with reference to waste storage process, over the last 15 year period were presented. The problem of waste monitoring and area reclamation was noticed. The decreasing amount of dumping ground objects, their total area and waste quantity in almost all provinces was stated. Despite almost 5% decreasing level of waste recycling in Poland in the years 2002-2010, a high increase of this process in the Świętokrzyskie and Śląskie provinces was spotted.
