THE CHANGING ROLE AND SIGNIFICANCE OF AGRICULTURE IN THE POLITICAL THINKING AND ACTIONS OF THE POLISH PEOPLE’S PARTY

Streszczenie Agriculture has always played a significant role in the activities and political ideology of the Polish People’s Party (PSL). However, noticeable changes are occurring in this area. Notably, the current president of the PSL does not come from an agricultural or rural background, which has influenced the party’s new image and developmental direction. Currently, the party is pursuing a dual approach. It aims to maintain its influence among rural voters by reminding them of its agrarian roots, while simultaneously appealing to new voters by promoting itself as a non-class-based party. These efforts can be challenging to reconcile.
